Benjamin Williams Leader 1831-1923
Born in Worcester, Benjamin Williams Leader was the son of civil engineer Edward Leader Williams who was apparently a friend of John Constable. Unfortunately, as Constable died in 1837, my initial thought that a young Benjamin was influenced by the master himself seems unlikely, though not entirely impossible. (Shame, it would have been a nice story!)
Benjamin Williams Leader was a successful landscape painter throughout his life - his paintings were first exhibited at the Royal Academy when he was in his early 20s.
