Great Art Jigsaw

Although not a member of the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood, Ford Madox Brown (1821-1893) was closely associated with the group both professionally and personally. Many of his paintings are classed as Pre-Raphaelite and his daughter married Rossetti, one of the founding members of the PRB.

Work is one of his most famous pictures and accentuates the "nobility of labour", a concept discussed in Thomas Carlyle's book "Past and Present". Carlyle is shown in the picture on the right.
