Géricault was a French painter who was a pioneer of the Romantic movement, a reaction in the second half of the 18th century against the scientific rationalisaton of nature embodied in the works of people such as Newton and other scientists. Read more at Wikipedia.

The Charging Chasseur, 1812 was Géricault's first major work. Chasseur is a French term for hunter and is the name given to certain French light infantry regiments.
