Peter Paul Ruben, 1577 - 1640
Rubens was a Flemish Baroque painter who painted mainly portraits, landscapes and history paintings as well as alterpieces. He lived in Italy from 1600 to 1608 where he was influenced by Veronese, Tintoretto, Titan, Michaelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo Da Vinci. When he returned home to Antwerp he opened a large studio - two of his assistants were great artisits in their own right: Jacob Jordaens and Anthony van Dyck .
Rubens was the most renowned northern European artist of his day and is now regarded as one of the most important painters in the history of Western art.

Risen Christ, 1616
The painting refers to the story of the Resurrection (Matthew 28:1-10; Mark 16:1-8; Luke 24:1-9; John 20:1-18.) when Jesus rose from the dead after his crucifiction.
The painting is at Palazzo Pitti, Galleria Palatina, Florence, Italy - there does not seem to be a webpage but there is more information on this gallery here: www.polomuseale.firenze.it/english/musei/palatina/
