Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828 - 1882)
was one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood in 1848, along with John Everett Millais and William Holman Hunt.

A Vision of Fiammetta, 1878.
The painting was inspired by the Italian poet Boccaccio's romance "Fiammetta". It has been alleged that whilst staying in Naples, Boccaccio (1313-1375) had fallen in love with Lady Maria d'Aquino, an illegitimate daughter of King Robert of Naples. La Fiammetta was his pet name for Maria and and it was she who was the inspiration for La Fiammetta. However, some scholars doubt that this story is true. More details can be found at:
