Pieter Bruegel the Elder (1525 - 1569) was from the Netherlands. He is well known for his genre paintings (scenes of common and domestic life) and also for his landscapes. He is the "head" of the Bruegel dynasty which includes:
his sons Pieter Brueghal the Younger and Jan Brueghal the Elder,
his grandsons Ambrosius and Jan Brueghal the Younger
his grandson in law David Teniers the Younger
and his great grandson Abraham Brueghal.
